Black History Month Employee Spotlight: Shantel Price

|
To honor Black History Month and the continuing story of Black history and excellence, Investis Digital would like to highlight some of our own employees.

In February, the United States celebrates Black History Month. Officially recognized in 1976, Black History Month has been an important month of acknowledgment every year since. This month celebrates the achievements of Black Americans in the past and present of our country, and the ongoing successes they continue to have. At Investis Digital, we are honored to observe the month, while of course remembering that this celebration and acknowledgment must go beyond just one span of time.

To honor Black History Month and the continuing story of Black history and excellence, Investis Digital would like to highlight some of our own employees. In today’s post, we’re spotlighting some insights from Shantel Price, a Senior Programmatic Media Analyst at Investis Digital. Shantel has graciously answered six questions about her career, life, and heritage for us—here’s a little bit more about her in her own words:

What Does Black History Month mean to you?

Black history month means recognizing people who have been overlooked and undervalued. When President Gerald Ford recognized Black History Month in 1976, during the celebration of the United States Bicentennial, he urged Americans to "seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history".  There is much to celebrate; importantly, I feel that the perseverance of the Black race in America should be highlighted, not only when it comes to the history makers, but when looking at the everyday people who persist and thrive regularly in the face of obstacles and opposition. Black history shouldn’t be limited to a month but in the forefront of our minds on a daily basis as all history should be.

What is a moment in Black history that influenced or shaped your career/life or that particularly resonates with you?

When Barack Obama became president, and we were graced with Michelle’s presence. They showed us how to gracefully deal with adversity and persecution and utilize their strength as their shield from negativity. Michelle showed us that black women are not as simple as a stereotype but are full of vigor and strong-will to conquer their obstacles and be blessed with purpose.

What advice do you have for people looking to start their careers or become leaders today?

Before you can lead, you must follow. Look at your favorite leaders from work managers to preachers and politicians, take note of the tactics and strategies you favor, and adopt. Also, look at your least favorite leaders and why you don’t resonate with them. Take notes there as well.

What motivates you to come to work each day?

I am very competitive and always want to excel. What motivates me to come to work is my inner drive and love for God who asked me to do all things well, not for man, but for him.

What is your favorite mantra or quote?

"Make today a day to remember." or "Keeping up is a whole lot easier than catching up."

Tell us a fun fact about yourself!

I love to dance and view the world through numbers and emotion instead of words because words can lie. I am a fan of all things alien and an overall goofy nerd from Cleveland, Ohio. You don’t want to play me in Monopoly unless you like to lose, and I love reading. Also, I have the cutest puppy known to man.
