Our Director of Content, Megan Krause, recently spoke to SHRM, a leading Human Resources publication, on behalf of Investis Digital.
In the article by Kathleen Doheny, Megan shared her perspective on the annual review and went on to discuss the ways in which Investis Digital handles the process to allow for a less formal, and more discussive format, taking the burden off both managers and those they manage. The article discusses how important it is to emphasize the human aspect of a review and look to have meaningful, and not one-sided conversations.
The article states, “[Investis Digital] has shifted to holding check-ins every two to four weeks. The tone for these is set at the beginning of the year, said Krause, who oversees five employees. "I sit down with my team members and we set goals and objectives."
The frequent meetings, which are generally a half-hour, then become a forum to discuss what is going well and what is not working, based on those goals and objectives. "We get an opportunity to build solutions together," Krause said.”
Megan also adds that goal setting has been a particularly helpful aspect of these reviews, allowing her to focus in with those she manages and help them to achieve the specific goals they are thinking about. New or less experienced employees will benefit greatly from this system, which allows their managers to help hone and grow their skills.
A chief takeaway about the Investis Digital system, Megan and the article conclude, is that while frequent, more personalized, check-ins, might require a greater time investment than a traditional annual model, the overall success the system brings and the individual, and company-wide, benefits that come with it are absolutely worth the effort.
