As many platforms, such as Instagram, work to become seen as shopping friendly interfaces, YouTube might be next to join the fray.

Soon, it might be possible for every good that is seen on YouTube to be purchasable through the interface. Recently, YouTube began to ask its users to tag and track products that were seen in their videos. This data will then be connected to analytic and shopping tools from Google, which owns YouTube.

In this way, YouTube’s videos could become a live shopping catalog, which users could browse at their leisure and then also use to make purchases. iven the number of videos on YouTube, this move seems to make a lot of sense for the platform and users alike. Video is already seen as a crucial tool to speak to the next generation of consumers, and this kind of evolution would help users buy from videos they are already connecting to. YouTube’s channels feature a lot of product heavy videos already and adding the ability to purchase with a click could be very enticing.

According to Bloomberg, “A YouTube spokesperson confirmed the company is testing these features with a limited number of video channels. Creators will have control over the products that are displayed, the spokesperson said. The company described this as an experiment and declined to share more details.”
