A global cybersecurity hack centering around Microsoft, which occurred earlier this week, is bringing issues of digital security to the forefront once again. As we have written about before, recent disruption has left digital ecosystems rife for cyberattack. With more people working from home, and not the office, and many companies facing a strain on resources for services and teams, hackers have become emboldened to orchestrate more and newer kinds of attacks. Though in already confusing times it can be difficult, this news underwrites the need to make security a priority for all brands.
In the case of the recent Microsoft hack, it appears at least 60,000 people may have been impacted globally. A recent software patch, released last week in order to help smooth email operations in Outlook, created an unfortunate entry point for hackers that allowed them to access compromised servers and leaving serious vulnerabilities. Network operators that may have been affected are urged to take additional steps to confirm if they have been affected or targeted.
