On this week’s Tech Tuesday post, we want to talk about a new search engine that will reimagine what ad free search engines will look like.
Sridhar Ramaswamy who once ran Google’s $115 billion advertising arm has launched his own startup company called Neeva, Neeva is a subscription based searched engine that looks for information on the web as well as personal files like emails and other documents. Unlike other search engines, Neeva will not show any advertisements and it will not collect or profit from user data.
How this new search engine will pan out is yet to be seen considering that this type of service is something that many users have grown accustomed to receiving for free.
However, with 53 percent of web traffic worldwide coming from mobile users in 2019, advertisements take a quite of bit of real estate above the fold before we even get to the ranked sites, especially on a smaller screen.
From initial views, it seems that Neeva aims to address focusing on an ad free experience and keeping what users want to see as a priority.
Neeva is currently in limited beta testing and is not available for general use. Interested potential users can join a waiting list to become an early tester. Ramaswamy has indicated subscription will cost less than $10 a month.
