As society begin to transition into the reality of post-pandemic life, we’re all asking what lessons we have learned and which changes in our daily routines will endure. One field that has been greatly affected during the pandemic is higher education.
As educators shifted in-person classes hastily to an online format, there was a fear that online learning would be detrimental to students. However, a recent study has concluded that, in fact, the pandemic has left students feeling positively towards online education and hybrid learning structures.
The results of the survey (conducted by Bay View Analytics in partnership with Cengage, the Online Learning Consortium, the WICHE Cooperative for Educational Technologies, the Canadian Digital Learning Research Association and the University Professional and Continuing Education Association) indicate:
“The majority of students, 73 percent, ‘somewhat’ or ‘strongly’ agreed that they would like to take some fully online courses in the future. A slightly smaller number of students, 68 percent, indicated they would be interested in taking courses offering a combination of in-person and online instruction.”
Overall, students also looked back at their classes positively, indicating that despite disruption, online education served its purpose.
